The company's new slogan is “It Starts With Y!ou.” That’s their spelling (or misspelling), not ours. Yahoo is spending more than $100 million on the campaign.

One Possible Future For Twitter: a Vehicle for Charity Micro-Payments

There's a rumor that the majority of first posts from newbies on Twitter goes something like "Just trying to work out what Twitter is for!" It's undoubtedly a successful invention, yet sometimes it feels like a solution in need of a problem. A company called TipJoy, though, thinks it's got a great future as a vehicle for micro-payments.

The Banality of Obama's "Cutting-Edge" Web Event

President Obama has availed himself of almost every major medium in this month's PR blitz. 60 Minutes, Jay Leno, ESPN, CNN, primetime press conference, The New York Times. Now he's taken to the Web, keeping Americans apprised of his plans to stem the nation's leeward slide into insolvency. But as unusual as a presidential news conference might be on the Web, it achieved almost immediate banality.

Inaguration of President Bararck Obama and the Brand Campaign

Never have we seen an elected president, and maybe even any single person come into the spotlight as quickly, and with as much force as Barack Obama has over the last 4+ years. If online search (googling) can give any indication of a person’s visibility, then Barack has shattered records.

The Brand Called President

I got to DC right before the big crowds started to arrive, in time to watch the jumbotrons and bleachers get ready for the masses, and the vendors kick themselves for not putting Obama's face on more crap. (Oh, we're all having fun with it. Even our art director is making "baracklava" for the Fast staff to eat while we watch the inauguration.) DC inspires a certain amount of awe on a normal day, but when the buildings trot out their best party clothes, it's hard not to be filled with a sense of pride.

How Obama Won It With the Web

This election year, both campaigns flooded the Web with campaign material, hoping that supporters would pass it on to friends. But the Obama campaign ultimately proved more tech-savvy, leaving the McCain campaign playing catch-up almost from the start. That's due to what Andrew Rasiej, founder of TechPresident.com, calls a "culture of belief in the Internet" among Obama and his staffers. "They leap-frogged the mainstream media by producing content that they knew would get distributed for them once it was uploaded."

Presidential Campaign Offers Great Lessons for Corporate Marketers/Communicators

As the U.S. presidential campaign get's insaner by the minute, it's providing great examples/lessons for corporate communicators and marketers.

Today the Obama campaign offers a great example of clear, hard-hitting communication in the form of www.keatingeconomics.com

It is a 13-minute mini-documentary film rhetorically linking John McCain to the current economic situation by highlighting his involvement with an earlier wave of failed financial institutions.

I'm Voting For: The Youth Vote Goes Online

When I was in college, I worked for a non-profit, unaffiliated organization that registered people to vote, specifically targeting young people. We would drive to supermarkets and movie theaters, wherever there was foot-traffic, and attempt to register people on their way to and from buying their groceries, or from watching their Scary Movie 3’s.
