Putting a Finger on My Michael Scott Envy

Was watching a rerun of The Office late last night. It was the one in which someone took a dump on Michael Scott's office carpet. He assumed the culprit was one of his direct reports and was initially paranoid and devastated that one of his dear team members would do something like this to their beloved boss.

"I'm Ryan!" - A Management Lesson from My Identical Twin Boys

My identical twin boys, Matt and Ryan, are now 11 years old. Most everyone who knows them tells them apart easily. They look quite similar, of course, but members of my household can accurately identify them a half mile down the road. To us, they're just that different. (Amazingly, my father can't tells them apart, and seems to think it's just hysterical that he calls them both "Matt-Ryan." Each time he says it, my dad laughs uncontrollably and my kids look at me as if to ask if he's completely lost his mid. But this is probably best left for time with my therapist.)

Collecting Sales Talent from the Shores of Corporate America

If you have topline growth responsibilities, you know that acquiring top sales talent is especially important during these difficult times. Proven producers typically require little base pay, and are lured instead by the upside potential achieved by exceeding their revenue goals.

Lessons from CYO Hoops

I coach my twin boys’ 5th grade CYO basketball team, and I often look there for applications to business and leadership. I don't always like what I find.

How many times have you tucked your tail between your legs, left your bosses office and wandered back down the hall to begrudgingly complete a task that was incompetent or worse yet not, even in the realm of pertinence?
