KaChing Takes the Thinking Out of the Stock Market Gamble

KaChing is a new startup that allows you to bet alongside top investors, so that every move they make can be duplicated in your portfolio. VentureBeat likens it to "fantasy football for investing junkies," but its effect is more subversive than that; it makes amateur day-trading into a guided art, in which small time investors can bet their eggs alongside the site's best performing members--for better or worse.

Can a Flash Game Fix Outrage over CEO Pay?

Everyone's furious at the brass. In France, workers detained four Caterpillar executives. At Obama's town hall meetings, citizens rail about CEO pay. This week, unionized airline workers took a creative 21st century approach. They made a "viral" online game about CEO pay. But is reverting to Web animation a good method for driving real reform, or is it simply just roiling vague, untargeted populist rage?

If You're Not Furious Over the Bank Bailout, Read This

Provisioned within the stimulus bill is a salary cap for executives of any bank that receives federal money through the TARP program. Instead of taking home millions, the top brass will be limited to $500,000 in total annual pay. Sounds like justice, doesn't it? It's not.

In fact, an outrageous loophole will allow bank executives to take home tens of millions of dollars thanks to taxpayer intervention.

Why is Yahoo Not Buying Back Its Stock?

In a recent Fortune article, Yi-Wyn Yen suggested that Yahoo's management should announce a major buyback the way Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard did. Yi-Wyn Yen quoted Argues Canaccord Adams equity analyst Colin Gillis as saying "If Yahoo [executives] really thought the stock was worth $40, then send a signal of confidence and show us that you mean it.

When a company buys back shares of its own stock, several things happen:

1 – There are fewer shares in the open market, which makes current shareholders shares worth more.
