Eco Innovation in Tough Times

I was sitting with executives from a company in the lifecycle assessment space this morning. As we were discussing the industry trends, I couldn’t help thinking about recent articles I’d read in the Wall Street Journal. Eco-innovation is under a lot from pressure from the economic squeeze companies are feeling.

So if the Global Economy stresses teamwork and collaboration, then why are resumes all about individual accomplishments?

With all the talk about the necessity for teamwork and collaboration given the further decentralizing of the Global Economy . . . then why are resumes all about marketing our individual accomplishments?

As an Executive Recruiter, here's the true irony I can pass on:

If a candidate or job seeker has the word 'team' in their resume more than 2 - 3 times, HR often perceives that the individual is stressing collaborative accomplishments because they have none to claim as their own.

Special Report: China Storms Africa

The No. 2 killer in Africa by parasite, after malaria, is an organism called Entamoeba histolytica -- or "Eh" for short. It was discovered in 1873, the year it took the life of missionary-explorer David Livingstone, that great champion of British imperialism on what his countrymen called the Dark Continent. I know this because, when I returned home from reporting in the sub-Sahara, the same pathogen was drilling through the walls of my gut.

China Surpasses U.S. as Leader in Sub-Sahara

That the West is losing the sub-Sahara does not come as news in Africa itself. One leader after another has been explicit on this point, from Senegal's president ("Today, it is very clear that Europe is close to losing the battle of competition in Africa") to Botswana's president ("I find that the Chinese treat us as equals; the West treats us as former subjects") to Nigeria's president at a banquet for China's President Hu ("This is the century for China to lead the world. And when you are leading the world, we want to be very close behind you").
