Global Warming and You

Long ago I loved to read the comic strip 'Pogo'. Pogo was a possum and a pithy homey philosopher who often hit the nail squarely on the thumb. One of my favorite observations by Pogo was, "We has met the enemy, and he is us".
In the matter of global warming, we sure has and we sure is.
I continue to see skeptical remarks about the reality of global warming and possible (possible??) consequences of it. I found a site called "LiveScience.com", which has dona hey ("many") satellite photos of the arctic ice pack from just about any year you care to check.

On the Effect of Remarks Taken Out of Context

Recently The Big Idea posted this remark: "Opening up domain names to end in any word and be created in any language will only create confusion, fraud, and phishing".
I commented on it, and part of my comment showed up on the Fast Company lead-in, but it certainly made me pause and think when I saw it. And laugh, long and hard.
The quotation read, "I don't see that domains ending in "almost" any word would cause confusion, there being some, like the 7 "forbidden ones", that wouldn't...."

On Retaining Separation of Church and State

In today's headlines, I see where Obama thinks it's a good idea for so-called faith-based organizations to get government money to work on "resolving social problems", and then he says in the next breath that he "firmly still believes" in the Doctrine of Separation of Church and State.

I say this is impossible, and is an extremely bad perspective.

What's A Thing Worth?

The question has been asked, "Is LikedIn worth $1 billion?" Depends on who you ask. Not likely, in MY mind, even while it is true that anything is 'worth' whatever a given individual or group is willing to pay for it - therefore, the value is situation-specific, in a sense. It is to some, and not to others. There is no way to force anyone to buy anything, after all. With the Internet, it's far harder for monopolies to take over, I believe..

Global Warming - How to Tell If It's Real

Hanh mitakuyapi. Recently, I have seen many letters to editors and posts on various Internet boards asking for proof that global warming is real. To me, the definitive proof of the reality - and awe-inspiring danger - of global warming is photographic. Specifically, satellite photos of the polar ice caps.

How Do We "Green" at Indian Maid?

Someone recently asked me how we run Indian Maid Products Inc. "so green". Partly it's because the company is run on Traditional Lakota Teachings, which were "green" before Europeans began their invasion of Turtle Island. Partly it's because it costs a lot less to do things right the first time. There may be other parts to the method, but I don't think they matter so much as the net result does.. living and working in harmony with the biosphere to the greatest degree we can. It takes more thought and care, but the results are more harmonious.

More on China, Quake Deaths and Population

I read a headline stating that the Chinese say their death toll from the May 12, 2008 earthquake is about 68,000. Predictably, there have been lots of cries about the 'tragedy'.
While the deaths are a tragedy for the loved ones who remain, in terms of human over-population and the extinction of species who share(d) our Holy Mother the Earth with us, 68,000 is a drop in the bucket. Let's run the numbers.
68,000 / 6,500,000,000 ~ 68 / 6,500,000 ~ 1/1,000,000. Expressed as a percentage, that's 0.0001 or 1 / 10,000 % of the earth's humans. A drop in the bucket, literally.

Under-Capitalization Promotes Creativity and..

Under-capitalization promotes creativity due to necessity being the mother of invention..
My Elders taught me, "any dummy can spend money; it takes real talent to make money stretch "and" grow your business".
I come from an emmigrant and blue-collar background on the non-ITI side; I'm the first person in either side of my family to go to college.
Among us ITI (Indigenous Turtle Islanders), it is not the norm to have graduated high school, so if someone goes to college, that's even more rare.

If I don't get a lot of negative feedback from this post, I will be most surprised, because I'm going to address the current attitude that death - especially of many people at a time - is somehow "a problem" or "a tragedy".
