The potential success of Mentee/Mentor pairing can often times be similar to that of dating. There are a host of reasons why a paired Mentee and Mentor would not be the ideal match, some of which are differences in:

Competence of the Human Resource Profession

I just read about the results of an interesting new study, “State of the Global Talent Nation”, conducted by Softscape. 94% of the 250 human resource professionals surveyed say they “don’t feel their personnel are adequately prepared to meet future company goals”. And that is 30 percent worse than three years ago. What’s even more disturbing? More than half of them say the big reason this is so is they are not confident that their business effectively manages human resource processes.

Super Stars need not apply: How HR systems are culling the very people that companies need the most.

Anyone who has looked for a job in the last four years has
probably noticed something very odd was going on. With only a few exceptions
almost every single company has the same format in order to apply for a job.
This same format of course leads to the same flaws emerging and the same people
being excluded.

Why All HR Departments Need a Blog

The rules have changed and blogging is not just for geeks with a knack for writing anymore. Employees who want to smear you, recruiters who don't want to hire you, PR Departments who want to snow you - are all blogging; is HR missing the train?

"If You Were An Animal, What Kind Would You Be?" - When You Hear This Question, Get Up And Leave The Room Immediately!

So the interview is going well - You're in upper management and have led many successful behavioral interviews yourself in the past. All indications are that you're knocking it dead . . . and then the person on the other end of the line (or across the table) drops a bomb:

"If you were an animal, what kind would you be?"
OR
"If you came back to life as an animal, which would you come back as?"
OR

Careers

Job Seekers, Beware!: Why Job Board Resumes Are Seen As Re-circulatory Garbage

Take a good look at the attached image and you'll begin to understand the analogy between Job Board resumes and Re-circulatory Garbage . . .

Take another look at let it sink in a little bit. Many candidates I speak with do not truly understand the ramifications of having their name, address, and phone number, etc. public on a board like Monster, CareerBuilder, etc, for the whole world to see. Think about it: Do you really want your information to be used as wallpaper for every corporate and third-party recruiter out there?
