Microsoft Video Mocks Apple, Android; Makes Ass of Self

Microsoft has a new video on the YouTubes that mocks Apple's App Store. Or means to. Inadvertently, it seems, it attempts to mock any number of companies--Google, Apple, Palm, Blackberry--for making good smartphones that run good software. Is Microsoft bullying the real smartphone innovators for being too smart? Are we in 6th grade? What the hell?

Here's the video:

How 2009 Will Spur The Rebirth Of Cyber Squatting

Call it the end of the dot-com world. Next year ICANN, the non-profit that oversees domain name and IP address registration, will start taking applications for new domain name suffixes, creating the potential for billions of new addresses ending with extensions like ".nyc" or ".law." But with the potential for new names comes an almost-certain rebirth of cyber squatting.

Oodle Brings Its "Weirdo-Filter" to Facebook Marketplace

Classifieds site Oodle announced today that it will re-invent the Facebook Marketplace as a “social” market in which users can buy and sell with friends and community members. The new Oodle-powered classifieds are slated to launch in the first quarter of 2009, according to Oodle CEO Craig Donato. Marketplace will retain its existing look and feel, but function more like Oodle's own site.

Tech Watch: Who's Afraid of the Touchscreen BlackBerry?

On Thursday, RIM and Verizon announced the details of their forthcoming touchscreen BlackBerry 9530, dubbed the Storm. Before getting into its feature-set and specs, here's the straight dope: it'll cost you $200 from Verizon when you sign up for a two-year voice and data plan, and it'll be available nationwide on November 21.

Zune Owners Getting Free WiFi at McDonald's

If you've ever sat in a McDonald's [MCD] munching on a quarter-pounder and thought, "man, I really wish I could download music right now," you're finally in luck. A new Zune software update from Microsoft [MSFT] will give Zune owners free Web and download access at about 9800 McDonald's locations nationwide. Wouldn't it be cool if there were a new reason to buy music online, too? You got it: listening to the Zune's FM radio now allows you to select songs you like and buy them right then and there. Even Apple's [AAPL] ubiquitous iPods can't do that.
