Nonsense At Work

Don’t waste my time:

Every week tells of another CEO failure and another corporate disaster. Every day more people say ‘I lost my job’; ‘I lost my money’. To date the American-dream response has been ‘find another job’; ‘make more money’.

But I’m beginning to hear a different refrain: ‘I wasted a part of my life’. What should you do about that? Reincarnate?
Before You Sell Your Tech Company. Make Sure You Know Your Brand Valuation.

As you invest your entrepreneurial sweat, blood, and tears to build your business, you must pay attention to the business fundamentals that make any business successful: develop comprehensive capabilities, deliver on your promises, and grow an organic management team that is trustworthy, reliable, and performance-oriented. Most importantly, your “EBITDA” is the number that makes or breaks your business overtime when it comes to its overall worth.

Accountability Dodge Ball: Why CEOs Must Reinvent Marketing ROI

I read that schools have largely eliminated the age old childhood game of dodge ball. You remember it. A group of us lined against a wall. Someone else kicked the ball at us, hard. Everyone moved to keep from being hit because if the ball found its mark, we were out of the game. So it is with marketing management. Everyday, every quarter, every fiscal year, they are engaged in an elaborate game of dodge ball. Most behave as if they were truly held to account, they’d be out of the game. They may be right.
What Your CEO Wants

After three years of hosting an Annual "For CEOs By CEOs" event the overwhelming request from these CEOs was "More often and More Cities, please!"

Why? Because no one is asking the CEO what he/she wants!

Salesreps from product companies either fear calling on the CEOs (thus blunder through any attempts) or just say "We don't sell to CEOs'.

Then there is a myriad of "experts" happy to tell the CEO what he/she wants. Let me assure you, that's exactly what your CEO does NOT want!

Have women broken the glass ceiling?

A recent survey entitled Workplace Insights, showed that while almost all American workers believe that women have made important strides in business over the past ten years, 86 percent surveyed still felt the glass ceiling was very much present.

Nonsense at Work

The Empty Desk

I once worked for a shipping line which merged with a group that included hotels and gambling resorts. As you can imagine when conservative shipping meets liberal gambling, the two CEOs had very different leadership styles.

Their desks showed just how different. The shipping CEO’s desk was hidden under heaps of reports and documents. The other CEO’s desk was bare.

Helping working moms work it out

It seems that workplaces and women have been talking about how to manage a family and a career for years now, and yet there still seems to be no one clear cut answer. That perhaps is because there likely is no magical answer like daycare + lucrative career = happy and complete woman taking care of her family.

Turning Things Right Side Up

The current economic downturn is nothing compared to what is ahead of us. American marketplace leaders need to start listening to our critics. If you dare, poke your head and shoulders into the crawl space, switch on a torch and take a close look at the timbers supporting western society. This blog invites careful, honest reflection and calls for examining sacred assumptions. For example...

"The primary purpose of business is to maximize owner (shareholder) wealth."
