After graduating from Kent State University in the fall of 2006, I took a CAD Draftsman position at Universal Brass Inc in Las Vegas in the summer of 2007. Over the past year, I have learned a lot and I believe my drawings reflect that. There is more detail and descrpitions in my drawings than before. I work mostly with detail,3D, Mechanical, Assembly, and Fabrication drawings. I have always been interested in the design field and architecture, but I think I have mostly always had a knack for drafting. My other interests are baseball, football, hiking, reading, biking and technology.

What is good design? I asked friends and colleagues what good design is. Most of them answered naming a few products or mentioning a designer’s name. I felt that these answers were not getting to the essence of what good design is or even better, what great design is. Read below my attempt to answer this seemingly easy question.

Great designs are those that successfully balance beauty and function in the context they are going to be used.

American Institute of Architects Convention and Design Expo

Most conventions are about talk, but the American Institute of Architects wants to "Walk the Walk." That's the theme of the campaign recently launched by the AIA to promote sustainable design, and accordingly, the AIA has greened its convention, which this year is in Boston. No more session handouts or "Hello, my name is..." name tags. Exhibitors are packing fewer samples, and leftover food is going to soup kitchens. The icing on this eco-friendly, design-rich cake: 75 architectural tours of "America's Walking City." -KR

Prior to Single Point FM I was the facilities manager at Magellan's International Travel Corp. I was a one man department in a fairly small company. I was responsible for the facilities operations for 4 properties: corporate office, distribution center and two retail stores.

As Deng Xiaoping might have said, to get creative is glorious: First China conquered manufacturing, now it's sniffing out design. This exhibition at London's V&A Museum, on until July, showcases achievements in the country's fast-growing architecture, fashion, art, and design sectors since the late 1990s--including the Wing Shya photograph "The Soft Touch: Pearls of the Orient." While the boom might spook sensitive creative types in the West who fear the effect of cheap talent on their marketplace, V&A director Mark Jones says they shouldn't worry.
