“Even You Can Draw It So They Quickly Understand, Kare”

In art class we were asked to draw a familiar object. I picked something simple. A tire. No one could recognize it. And yet, after reading The Back of the Napkin: Solving Problems and Selling Ideas with Pictures I was able to draw a description of SmartPartnering and another on storyboarding.

He was in Bangalore and his co-presenters were in San Jose, yet Cisco’s CEO appeared live - on thesame stage. How? By using a breathtaking 3D holographic-like technology. They tout it as, “the world’s first real time virtual presentation. Aptly, it’s called TelePresence.

We’d Rather Work Together Than Alone

So says Smart Mobs author Howard Rheingold in his 19-minute talk at the Ted conference. He believes it is instinctive to want to participate in a compatible group. Of course, we are only as strong as the weakest link. Hear how to be a part of collective action and participatory media. It may lead you to hearing more and reading this chapter of Civic Life Online: Learning How Digital Media Can Engage Youth.

Battling Crime One Leak at a Time?

From tax evasion and money laundering to what’s happening at Guantanamo, whistleblowers’ “secret” documents can be posted and seen by anyone with access to the Internet, thanks to Wikileaks. Even a federal judge’s order here in San Francisco can’t completely quash the testimony now. People just post the story on mirror servers and elsewhere. That’s what the Swiss bank Julius Baer (“the best justice Cayman Islands money launderers can buy?”) discovered this month.

How Will We Meet in the Future?

Last Friday the members in my audience at EMC Venues’ MEET voted on questions I asked and saw their cumulative votes appear on the screens on either side of me soon thereafter. They loved it. I only wish audiences had more ways to share and compare all year long. That’s what moms in medicine are doing.
