Next week, the 15th U.N.
Will Google's Rich Media Ads Drive Users Insane?

Google announced new search-side video and picture advertisements Tuesday, masquerading them as an improvement for users.
Google and TiVo Make a Deal: Your Commercials Are Going to Get a Lot More Personal

TiVo, everyone's favorite DVR maker, has just signed an agreement with Google to hand over tons of data on its users habits for analysis. The upshot: Advertisements are going to be even more targeted and personal. It's how Internet TV ads will work in the future.

Become a Fan to Lower Prices for All: Is Intel's Facebook Ad the Future of Advertising?

Intel has teamed up with Sprout Inc.--a company heavily involved with social media-based advertising--to launch a new interactive Facebook promotion that's pretty clever, and which might just indicate one possible future for advertising. An oddly disturbing one, at that.

The Importance of Brands

People often ask, ‘‘What is brand equity?’’ There are many ways to
answer this. Some say it’s everything associated with the brand that adds to
or subtracts from the value it provides to a product or service. Others emphasize
the financial value of the brand asset.

Ad With Dying, Computer-Animated Polar Bears Stirs Controversy

How far is too far, in the effort to teach the public about global warming?

A U.K. group called Plane Stupid is drawing fire for a new ad they're airing, which depictes polar bears chucked from planes and falling to their death. It's meant to illustrate the point that every plane flight emits about 880 pounds of carbon-dioxide--about the weight of a polar bear.

The Gunn Report's Most Decorated Ads Include Interactive for the First Time

The 2009 Gunn Report, an encyclopedia of the world's highly decorated ads, is out.

The report is something of a bible for companies looking to hire top talent. Rather than awarding any plaudits itself, it simply tabulates the 100 ads and campaigns that won the most industry awards throughout the year. This year they included interactive and online work for the first time.

Flashback by Marco Brambilla for Six Scents Series Two

FLASHBACK, a new short film by Marco Brambilla, weaves together iconographic images sampled from films to create a kinetic video canvas - visualizing the spectrum of human emotion and recall using the principles of cognitive psychology. Perfumes are formulated from distinct notes, each of which represents a particular thought or feeling. They then combine to form a complex fragrance that can vary from individual to individual.

What CSI Can Teach Us About Shopper Behavior

Great retailers know they must be in the rhythm of societal trends. We know how contemporary Apple stores, Abercrombie, Sephora's, and Coach stores feel. But I want to talk about plain old grocery shopping.

Like a CSI episode, where the evidence at first is invisible but then magically becomes apparent to the talented investigator throughout the crime scene, the forensic evidence about what people want from retail and what keeps them up at night is right there in their shopping cart.

Video Ads on iPhone Will Punish Multiplayer Gamers

AdMob is planning special video advertisements for iPhones that play like movie clips before an app launches. In other words: time to go offline before you fire up that app. (Below, an ad for an EA game plays before a Tapulous app launches.)

Raise your hand if you are promiscuous. Come on, don’t be shy ... you’re in the company of friends here. Having a hunger for casual sexual relationships is nothing to be ashamed of. That is of course assuming that it’s consensual, you’re not in a committed relationship and you’re taking the proper safety measures. And, by proper safety measures, I’m talking specifically about prophylactics.

Will This Advertising Get Me Laid?

People. You can't go out and have a good time in New York without money. And if you are starting up a blog or a social media / social network empire, you have two choices. Make it really big really fast and sell it off. Or, grow it with focus, niche-seeking content writers, and don't worry so much about advertising. Apparently, only 8% are reading it anyway.

An explanation follows:(I wrote about this earlier at the Eduvest blog)
