Samsung Predicts a Smartphone, OLED and Touchscreen-Rich Future

Samsung, with its suite of successful smartphones, is in a better position than most mobile phone makers to know about the future of the devices--and it's betting that in just three years 29% of all cellphones sold will be smart ones. That represents a growth of over 100% on the current global smartphone market.

2009: The Year Gadgets Stop Being Life Add-Ons?

I was reading about Vuzix's new VR projection glasses--actually looking pretty snazzy, versus a prop from Star Trek--when a thought struck me. It seems that the gadget as a nice-to-have bolt-on to modern life is dead. Instead, the gadget as a ubiquitous, fully-integrated, seamless augmentation to modern life has been born, and 2009 is when the transition may become complete.

Let me start with the technology.

February 29th is a cool date. Whenever it rolls around, it's kinda satisfying to be experiencing a day that you only get every four years (except on millenia.) But for Zune owners earlier this week, Feb 29th 2008 was a big problem.
