Problems starting a group

I am having 3 probelms with trying to set up a group.

1) Even if I make it a private group ita ppears to be visible to everyone

2) How do you change the settings of a group, ie. change it from Private to Public, I can't find anything to do this with

3) I have invited someone to join a private group, they have got the email, gone to the page and clicked to join. But then it says the Group is set so members can only be added my the moderator. I can't see how I am meant to do this.

Thanks, any help very welcome.

Accept contact invitation feature does not work using email link

I received an invitation today for a contact with the link:

http://www.fastcompany.com/buddylist/nnnnn/buddies/requests, where nnnnn is the request number.

Selecting the link instantiates the fastcompany page, but the link contents are never displayed.

I also signed in to the site separately and saw 2 requests contact invitations, but could not view the profiles of those individuals.

Site Advisors & Testers

cannot post to personal blog

I am unable to post anything at all to my personal blog (though I successfully created a group, a blog for that group, and posting to that blog). Whatever I type, today when I submit I get this message:

! blog : This post can't be referenced.

On previous days I got the message that I was suspected of being spam, but when I typed in the "captcha" and clicked submit, I got the above message. Today it just skips that step. Can anyone help?

Musings on th FC site

Where is the "Post Comment" button?

How can I see/browse/search the member list of a group that I am part of?

Think user and listening, not push and talk.

Here's a story:

I got the paper FC in the mailbox yesterday. As always, I dove straight into it. I was touched by the passion about the new site and what you are trying to accomplish with it. So I thought: let's give them a chance.

I uploaded my contacts from LinkedIn. I see a list and a button that says: "Send Invitations"

Site Advisors & Testers

How do you Delete a comment or Edit it?

I posted a comment on an article that I immediately wanted to edit. (Now, I would just like to delete it!) I can see it on my profile but I see no where to edit or delete it.

Could someone on staff please help me with this? You are welcome to delete both my comments. I flagged them using the "Report Content" button but that was the only thing I could see to do. Thanks.

Site experience less than optimal so far

I don't know if my experience with the new FC beta site is uniquely problematic, or if others are having the same problems, but I'm finding it frustrating enough that I can't see myself engaging much - if at all - with the community. I belong to a few social networks, run a couple of multi-blog sites, have a conference site that has a social networking component, and so on, so I'm not a newbie. On the other hand, I'm willing to concded if I've overlooked something obvious.

FastTalk subjects locked

FastTalk topics are "access denied"

if they are about 2 days or more old...so it seems.

I understand that you dont want old ones modified after a certain point,

but hopefully you make them viewable.

In this case I was trying to see what all

was said about Web 3.0

Blog on content list doesnt show updates.

It DOES show when a new posting is there.

It DOES NOT show updated version if on the showing posts

changes. (The version on MyFastCo page has the old version still)

*** Also, i am posting to the Group here...because

since I am a member of the testers, I dont get the normal

Thanks and keep it coming...

Now that the site is out of beta, we've converted this group as a place for site advisors and testers. We hope you'll continue to participate. We have been reviewing your suggestions and acting on many of them. If you haven't seen your fix make it to the site yet, it may be because our developers haven't yet gotten to it. They've literally worked all through the night several days in a row. We'll be rolling out new waves of changes every 48 hours or so. Many thanks, Ed Sussman, FastCompany.com

Site Advisors & Testers

The Dreaded Apostrophe

On behalf of the many Irish members whose names include apostrophes, I'm wondering what can be done to fix how the website handles this character.

Imagine my horror to see the message, 'Welcome back Peter O&#39;Donnell' - can't something be done about that?

BUG?

As a new member I got into a negative loop. In the sign up process at the second screen after checking the boxes about what I was open to related to other members I tried to select the button on hte bottom that continues with the profile process but kept coming back to the home page when I clicked on the button. Hence I remain at 13% complete on my profile.

Site Advisors & Testers

When I signed on, I clicked on "My Profile" and realized that there wasn't too much information. The bar at the bottom said I had completed 38% of my profile. I spent quite a bit of time looking for the place to complete my profile and make changes. I was never able to find it. I spent so much time doing that, I didn't have time to spend in the actual website.

User Profile - Defect & Usability

Defect: See screenshot. When adding work history on my profile, I was unable to view end date years between 1999 and 2005, which I would expect to show.

Newsletter Format Selection Bug

I selected several weekly Newsletters. At the bottom I left format option on the default "HTML". When I received the email confirmation of my selections, it said I will receive my newsletters in text format.

I will have to wait to see in which format they actually arrive in.

beta testing the profile section - updates not happening

Just logged onto the site for the first time in a while to try out the beta site. So far so good. I went into my profile to make some updates and am discovering hitting Save and Continue does neither. Also got kicked out of the session a few times and had to come back in. Has any one else run into problems with profile updates?

Site Advisors & Testers

Would Prefer Longer Teasers

Very nice clean design.

I don't know about everyone else, but I find that I prefer more than the beginning of one sentence as a teaser to get me to read a story. It's so frustrating to click on a vague link and then find out that the story doesn't have that much interest to you, then click back to see the story list again, then the same issue the next time. I'd rather see enough of the story to know if it would interest me...

Bug in Company of Friends

I deleted my membership in the company of friends in my old location and got the email below. Unless removing yourself from a group is considered inappriopriate behavior ;-), this is a bug.

You have been removed from the XXX XXXXX - Company of Friends group due to activity that is deemed

inappropriate for the group and/or for Fast Company. As the group moderator,

your membership may be reactiviated at my discretion.
