Is Your Brand Awesome? Should it be?

Arrivals and Departures in the Workplace

When an employee leaves a company, whatever the circumstance, it creates chaos. Who will cover their duties? Will they be replaced? Will someone be promoted to fill the gap? When the person that goes is a manager, things get even more complicated because the many people under the departed manager are left up in the air.

People Are My Priority for BlogWorld 2008

Okay, as a speaker/writer/blogger type, I'm happy that I'll be there gabbing and sharing opinions, but what I'm really looking forward to most at BlogWorld this year are the connections that the event will bring. Where else can I meet real estate bloggers, military bloggers, Godbloggers, and so many more varieties outside my world of tech and social media? How cool is it that Rick Calvert and the folks at Blog World Expo go out of their way to faciliate a much larger scope of conversation than what's covered in most blogging events?

Socially Secure - What I Learned at BlogWorldExpo '07

I attended BlogWorld Expo last year for my company, BlogTalkRadio (I'm VP, Business Development) and enjoyed a number of solid sessions and prime networking.

My focus in terms of what I wanted to learn about from the event, however, was insights about authenticity in Social Media as I was researching my book, Tactical Transparency that I've co-authored with Shel Holtz.

Blog World 2008

It's fall again and while summer's valiantly trying to extend its tenure, pretty soon our shadows will get longer and our days shorter. For bloggers though, while posts about drinking outside, losing iPhones on the beach, and walks through Central Park might have to be curtailed, all is not lost; what is perhaps the year's most awaited event is just around the corner.

New format for this blog: my business research, findings and application

Previously, I have been posting articles which I have written, or interesting articles I liked in the past. I like the candor of fast company, and believe this could be a great opportunity to "brain storm" in a research-like fashion with others.

Meaning, I do a lot of research online. Product, feasibility, SEO (I'm still learning the mid-level basics) and more. Combining my thoughts, and interesting finds will hopefully give others a jumpstart on their own companies.

Cheers!

Nonsense At Work

The lobsters holding you back

Do you have lobsters on your team? For your sake, I hope not.

I recently suggested on my radio show and on my blog that you must fill your position if you want to keep it and more than fill it if you want to be promoted. The responses varied from ‘thanks for wasting my time’ to the following tale of woe from a listener.

He once worked in union shops where if you even got close to filling your position, you would be told to slack off. As he put it, ‘it’s a real morale killer’.

If you have a web browser, you can have a prototype - a virtual one,
that is. Design My Idea LLC has developed VirtuType, a Web-based

Gates, the company's president and lead designer, to this month's

PR and Blogs...good for the adventure travel industry

Here some good articles I've found on the net about the good benefits of adding a pr campaign to promote a small business in the adventure tourism industry.

The most common ways to start create buzz and on-line traffic is to focus on Public Relations and Bloggers.

These 2 means have much power because can give the opportunity to
get Google rankings indirectly (More buzz = more links = better
rankings).

Leave your old job behind:

Let's be optimistic for a minute and think about your next promotion. Yes, some people do get promoted during a recession.

Here's a question for you to consider, just in case you are one of them: Why do many people who earn a promotion fail at the higher-level job?
