Though Apple's iPhone still rules the mobile browsing game, it looks like Google's Android OS--spread over numerous devices now--is beginning to catch up. Admob's stats show its actually overtaken RIM to steal second place.

The Google Phone Is Coming to Change the Game

[Update: Could the Google phone be a data only, VoIP-driven device, rather than a standard phone? TechCrunch has a source that thinks so, and suggests that AT&T is already bidding to provide data services. (If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.) You can already port your phone number to Google Voice, after all.
Hack My Ride: Ford Opens Up Sync Software Development Kit for In-Car Apps

Ford is planning to open its Sync in-car computing platform to third party app developers, the automaker tells FastCompany.com.

The idea is still nascent and there is no hard-and-fast timeline for release, says Prasad Venkatesh, who leads Vehicle Design & Infotainment at Ford. Just how drivers would use in-car apps is still being researched as well. (Below, a present-day Sync system in a Ford Mustang.)

Don't Let an Apple Snow Leopard Bug Delete All Your Data [Update]

Update: Apple has acknowledged the issue and says its engineers are working on a fix. No software patch has been released yet, and Apple hasn't given Snow Leopard users a timeframe -- but for now, avoid using any guest accounts on your 10.6 Mac.

Panicked users of Apple's Snow Leopard are flocking to support forums, claiming the new OS is deleting their entire user account in error.

Which Tablet (PC) Will You Swallow--Apple's or Android's?

As speculation increases on the InterWebs about Apple's mythical tablet Mac, spurred by some leaked video, another cool-looking tablet MID has surfaced, and this one's powered by Google's Android. It's the year of the tablet PC!

Check out the unidentified slate/tablet form-factor device--it's an extremely sexy-looking beast, even if its design cues are unashamedly ripped from the iPhone.

Ten Windows Apps That Make Mac Fans Drool

Last week we profiled 10 Mac apps that jealous Windows users could only pine for. Well, Windows has its share of nifty stuff too, so we'd be remiss if we didn't remind Mac users why 90% of planet Earth still runs on Redmond.

There's been some fuss online about Nokia developing a Google Android-powered smartphone and showing it in September at the company's World Conference.

Netbook owners keen to upgrade their mini PCs to Windows 7 from XP may not have to buy or borrow a DVD drive to do so: Microsoft may sell the new OS on USB thumb drives.

Windows 7 Pricing Out, and It's a Vista Re-Run

It's official: Windows 7 is due October 22, and will cost you at least $120 to upgrade from a Vista or XP machine. Microsoft just released its price list, which is sure to be a disappointment for some, due to the high cost. Luckily, a limited number of pre-orders will cost much less.

Google vs. Microsoft: Acer's Android Netbook Escalates the Battle

Microsoft is pretty busy stealing search market share from Google with its Bing search engine, but it might do well to keep an eye on its core business. PC maker Acer has announced it will begin shipping a netbook running Google's Android operating system in the third quarter of this year, opening another front in the battle for market share between the two tech giants.

Will a High Price and Netbook-Limiting Specs Hurt Windows 7?

Here's a nasty, juicy rumor to mull-over on your holiday weekend: Microsoft will be pricing Windows 7 higher than Vista, making it the costliest OS the company has ever released, on average. Mix in news of the limiting specs that Microsoft allows for netbooks, and that rumor sounds even worse.

Apple isn't usually very elaborate when it comes to App Store rejections. But according to Gigaom, one developer was recently led to believe that while Apple wouldn't approve his overly-risque app right now, it might allow the app once iPhone 3.0 was made publicly available.

Mac OS X Update Imminent

Apple has seeded two--maybe three--versions of its latest update to OS X Leopard this week, suggesting that the Mac-maker is getting ready to shove the update out its door as soon as next week.

Developers received a recent build, called 9J47, on Friday--just four days after getting build 9J44. Now rumors are underway that 9J50 is being distributed this week, indicating that the update must be getting close to its planned date of official release.
