WOMEN & LEADERSHIP

While it is encouraging to know that ‘women in leadership’ is now viewed as the norm rather than an oxymoron, it remains disappointing that only a select few women are making it to top management.

You will sign up for a higher interest loan on purpose.

In reading Sway by Ori Brafman and Rom Brafman, I found a study that was compelling enough to share. As a sales and marketing professional hearing studies like this continues to dissappoint me. I want to communicate objectively as possible, providing real value to consumers, and then earning the sale/business. This paragraph is in reference to a consumer lending bank who sent out multiple variations of a basic loan offer letter. Here is the exerpt that I am referencing:

Are Women The World's Last Untapped Natural Resource?

In the west, we’re spoiled. Women are an integral part of society,
running board rooms, Fortune 500 companies, households, raising
children; often doing everything (or more) that their male counterparts
do. In much of the rest of the world this is not the case. If women in
general aren’t abused and harassed, they are ignored throughout the
greater parts of the societies in which they live. If you thought
read more

Lord & Taylor? The old-fashioned department store? The place for frumpy ladies who lunch and tea? The retailer that was basically sold for parts to financier Richard A.
Women in Business Conference

The 2,000-plus businesswomen who will gather at this conference (June 23-26) are serious about networking -- featured prominently on the timetable are MatchMaker Meetings, a sort of speed dating for companies. They're also serious about business, if the keynoter is any sign. Chin-Ning Chu, author of The Art of War for Women, will teach attendees how to apply The Art of War, the famed sixth century B.C. military treatise by Sun Tzu, to the workplace.

Management

Technology companies have made strides to create more diverse work environments and women have less barriers to advancement than they did a decade a ago, according to a survey conducted earlier this month by Catalyst, a New York-based nonprofit research company.

Leadership, as defined by Generation Y women

Though many more women are taking leadership positions on Wall Street and Congress, and an increasing number of women are starting their own businesses, many Generation Y women do not want to take on the traditional idea of leadership.

Cubicles are hell

Cubicles are never alright. It is only nice when it is quiet, which is
not often. I have a loud cackling laugh expelled from a woman next to
me. This can be heard with the office door closed and in the closed
restroom from the far end of the bathroom. IMAGINE being right next to
it and trying to concentrate. Who is going to complain when she is the
supervisor though? Then next to the loud aweful laugh I have an
insanely loud woman from BOSTON that drives me nuts! She is so loud.
She does not even care that people are actually working around her many
read more

Women in Science and Technology

Women tend to be in the minority when it comes to careers in science and technology. The attrition rate for women in these fields is also much higher than for their male colleagues. How can we attract more women to these fields? How can we support the women who are currently pursuing science and technology carreer, and promote their continued development and advancement? I'd like for this to be a place that will allow women to share their experiences and support one another to achieve career goals.
