What do the White House and FastCompany.com have in common? The both run on Web engine Drupal. The White House has just switched over. Obama loves some open-source, it seems.

On Monday we released the first public demo of
a product I've been working on for almost a year. It's great to be
able to show people that you're not just imagining the company you
started.

Why Start (Up) Now

Amid the gyrations of the stock market, and predictions of a severe
economic downturn, I have found myself in the interesting position of
launching a start up with my friends at Lullabot and Bond Art +
Science. Over the past six years, I've worked within the comfortable
fold of two well known brands in the media world: Inc. and Fast
Company, the last four years as president of a digital division with
six websites, 40 employees and more than $10 million in revenue. Now
I've left to be the CEO of a self-funded company formed by Lullabot and

Workipedia: Office Wikis and the Collaboration Revolution

Gone are the days of paper here at the offices of FastCompany.com. Virtually all in-house office communication is done electronically. E-mail is a given, as is teleconferencing. But what our office does, along with an increasing number of other streamlining-minded businesses, is employ wikis extensively.

The Media is Social

Fast Company is about to shake things up again.

Back in 1995, in our first issue, we announced on our cover: "Computing is Social." It became a Fast Company mantra and helped open the eyes of a generation of entrepreneurs to the possibilities of the Internet.

In November of 1997, before social networking on the Web was called social networking, FastCompany.com started the "Company of Friends," dubbed the "Fast Company Readers' Network."

Drupal 6 RC2 released

When will Drupal 6 get released?

Drupal 6.0 final will be released after (a) there are no more critical bugs
and (b) we've had at least one release candidate without adding any
more to the list. When will that be? Well, it depends entirely on you!
The more you chip in and help out, the faster we can find and fix bugs,
and the faster 6.0 gets released. The faster 6.0 gets released, the
faster we can all start adding fancy new features to Drupal 7.0! So
please help out where you can, and let's make this the best and most
solid release of Drupal yet!
