With the economic downturn and the evolution of the business world in the last 10 years, has our ability to succeed on our own changed? We continue our examination of the business book "Free Agent Nation" with an interview of author Daniel Pink.
You have to be yourself to make your own way in the business world. We continue our Leadership Hall of Fame series, a year-long look at the top business books and authors, with an excerpt from "Free Agent Nation" by Daniel H. Pink.
As summer arrives, there's the hope that we can carve out a bit of time to read one or two books that may leave a mark after we've returned to the grind. I reached out to a diverse collection of thinkers, writers, and entrepreneurs and asked what non-business writing has had a big impact on them. They sent back an intriguing collection of fiction, science fiction, and history books.
Last Thursday night I attended a very interesting presentation by Dan Pink,
best selling author of "A Whole New Mind" and "Free Agent Nation." Dan
is a definite free agent himself, with his last "real" job being chief
speechwriter for Vice President Al Gore. The event was held at Merrill
Lynch's HQ on K Street and organized by the Washington Network Group. I
was stopped twice and my name checked before I got to the elevator.
Tight security — there were no freeloaders at this event!
