Rubicon Programs Inc.

The mission of Rubicon Programs is to help people and communities build assets to achieve greater independence. Since 1973, Rubicon has built and operated affordable housing and provided employment, job training, mental health, and other supportive services to individuals who have disabilities, are homeless, or are otherwise economically disadvantaged.

Based in Richmond, California, the agency employs upwards of 300 people and offers service throughout Contra Costa County and the San Francisco Bay Area. Rubicon has served over 35,000 men and women, provided hundreds of homes, and created hundreds of jobs. Rubicon operates two social enterprises, Rubicon Bakery and Rubicon Landscape, 100% of profits from which support the nonprofit agency.

Rubicon Bakery produces an extensive variety of delicious cakes and tarts. Our high-quality and handcrafted products are baked from "scratch" recipes and use only the finest of ingredients including fresh-grated carrots, Maine blueberries, real butter and Dutch chocolate. We use absolutely no preservatives and our products include no transfats. Our bakery also serves as a unique training center, which prepares people for employment with Rubicon or other employers. Job training, counseling, and peer support provided in a dedicated baking workshop, classroom with audio-visual capacities, and a job search center with computer terminals help participants develop their work and life skills.

Rubicon Landscape provides dedicated service and premium care for properties in the commercial and public sectors with over 20 years of landscaping experience. From turf maintenance to environmental restoration to inventory management, we offer a wide range of services customized to your specific needs. Rubicon is an environmentally responsible business and uses best practices to ensure a healthy environment.

Rubicon Integrated Services coordinates our intake, mental health, housing, and employment services to people who are homeless, economically disadvantaged, have mental health disabilities or other barriers. We strive to provide a comprehensive approach to the multiple issues our clients have to overcome.

For example, we operate transitional housing as well as permanent housing sites for people with disabilities, low-income families, and those with special needs. Residents of Rubicon's Transitional Housing Program participate in independent living and employment services throughout their tenancy. On-site housing counselors work closely with each resident to develop an individual service plan that supports self-sufficiency, identifies service needs, and assists residents with achieving goals that support continued independence and success.

Another example is our Fragile Families program -- the only one of its kind in the state and one of only six nationwide. This program teaches fathers 30 years old and younger how to manage conflicts ranging from meeting their financial responsibilities to negotiating with mothers about visits with the children.
