Last week, I was lucky enough to get a 30 minute phone conversation with the Director of Marketing and Product Development for one of the BIGGIE Yellow Pages publishers. At least I think that was his title.

WOW...what a treat!!!!

I'm not going to mention who I spoke with and I don't really suppose the company is all that important either. Based on their dismal stock market performances over the last year or so I think they might all be the same. Something is causing the stock market free fall of these Yellow Pages publishers and I'm just not convinced it's the...............market analysts who don't get it! I've listened in on many of the earnings calls and, well, that's fodder for another post.

What really blew me away was how completely out of touch this person was about what's happening in the real world. How overconfident he was about how nifty his online Yellow Pages is. Talk about drinking the koolaid...WOW!

After thinking back through this conversation, there are a few things I'm curious about and I want to find out if it's just me, that's off my rocker, or are there other people that feel the same way I do. Based on what I am seeing and hearing, I think there are TONSof people that feel the way I do. BUT, if I say that without checking first, I'm drinking my own koolaid. And we'll have none of that!

If you've ever usedthe YellowPages (print or online) or advertised in the Yellow Pages (print or online) we need your input. Which means we need just about everyone's input! Right?

Obviously, we're not creating any kind of sophisticated, statistically valid sample here. But, please pass this post on to as many people as you can and let's see what we can come up with.

Then, stay tuned as there will be more coming shortly including a summary of all the responses + my survey responses.

Oh, and I do realize that many of the folks that will complete this survey do currently work for Yellow Pages publishers or work as consultants to Yellow Pages publishers. They're biased one way -- I and others are biased the other way. No problem. That's what surveys are all about.

I also realize that many probably need to be careful of what they say when answering the questions. Heaven forbid someone gets to say how they really feel and what they believe and think. Then they get in trouble.

That's a problem.

Also, made up answers that sound good and are politically correct aren't the best for what we're doing here. All I would ask is if you CANNOT take the survey and tell us all what you REALLY think and believe - please do NOT take the survey.
