Bio and Interests: Ralph Schomburg

            Ralph Schomburg is an independent consultant utilizing his knowledge derived from a 36-year career at NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas.  He has a broad knowledge of financial management, program control and project management, strategic planning, forecasting and cost/benefit analysis, quantitative management science, and decision support systems.              Ralph retired from the position of International Space Station Resources Manager in July 2003 after restoring credibility to the ISS budget development, execution, and management processes.               Previously he was the Assistant Chief Financial Officer of the NASA Johnson Space Center.  He chaired the Total Quality Management Steering Committee, oversaw financial systems development, coordinated training and Cooperative Education student placement, developed and taught Program Control classes for the NASA-wide Program Project Management Initiative.            Ralph's previous supervisory assignments were Deputy Division Chief, Orbiter and Government Furnished Equipment Project Control Office; Manager, Orbiter Resources and Analysis Office; Manager, Mission Support Directorate Business Management Office; Supervisor, Project Analysis Office in the Space Shuttle Program Control Office (Level II); and Supervisor, Operations Resources Analysis Office in the Space Transportation Systems Operations Program Office.              Ralph earned his Bachelors degree in Mathematics and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Houston.  He has been the recipient of many NASA awards, was a training instructor in the National Management Association, and a part-time staff instructor at San Jacinto College. Ralph is an associate of Hoyle & Associates through which he conducts management seminars on topics including strategic planning, time and stress management, communications skills, leadership and supervisory skills, negotiation skills, and memory training.
