It's no secret that Sony is a bit desperate to reclaim the consumer-electronics cool it once embodied, in the years before Apple and Samsung began to roar. To that end, the company is making a big splash this year at the Milan Furniture Fair, with an installation and concept products designed by the ultra-talented BarberOsgerby.
The British duo designed a series of LED lamps with integrated speakers. For now, the concepts are just that--no plans at production have been announced...
...a lamp with a case made of carved wood...
...another made of cultured marble...
...and a striking floor lamp.
Another concept, this time dedicated to creating a "personal visual soundfield." Nearfield speakers and a Bravia television are combined with specially created stands aimed at cocooning a single person. Being rich and lonely never felt so good!
For their "visual sound furniture," BarberOsgerby created a combination TV console/speaker housing fabricated using 3-D printing. The structure itself is perforated, to allow sound to flow from the speakers inside.
One of the two products on display that is actually for sale: The BDV-F700 Home Cinema, whose name could use a lot of sexing up.
The other actual product, the beautiful Bravia NX800, which recently won the prestigious Red Dot award.
The TV can also be wall-mounted. Though why would you want to lose that stunning metal stand?
