David Rockwell, Patti Smith, and Marc Jacobs were the honorees in this year's Pratt Legends 2009 gala. "I never guessed we were destined to form such an unlikely trio," Rockwell said, noting that his 9-year-old son had warned, "Just don't let this give you a big, fat, swelled head."
At the event, architect Richard Meier (center, giving Patti Smith the fish-eye) introduced David Rockwell (at left, evidently explaining the shape of his exotic treehouse at City Center in Las Vegas to Smith), saying, "He's been able to do good work because he knows how to pick great clients."
Patti Smith rocked the house with a sing-along version of her best-loved hit, "Because the Night." To seal her punk creds, she hocked a loogie on the stage as a final flourish. Now, that's a gala!

Morgans Hotel Group's design director Mari Balestrazzi, said they're busy "getting the waitstaff up to speed" at company's new Ames Hotel in Boston, which is designed by David Rockwell. It will be open this month.
