We ask some leaders and trendsetters for their holiday wish lists. While some lust for luxury, others opt for charity donations. There's definitely something for everyone here, even if holiday bonuses doesn't come through.
If I were to hope to receive one thing this holiday it would be time with the family, ideally strapped onto a snowboard. And let me be clear, not all six of us will be on the same snowboard. We’ve been going to Whistler in Canada since 1997 so my hope is that the holidays find my wife and kids and I up in Whistler. (one-day lift ticket: $91, whistlerblackcomb.com)
I would love to receive a Maserati Quatre Porte ($119,750, maserati.us) because I can’t fit my three kids in my Porsche 911 or the Panamera. Just don’t give me any kitchen stuff. I don’t cook.
My wife and I just had twins so we are all about pictures now. I’ve always wanted a wi-fi enabled projector that can project pictures of my twins on the walls of my house. And there’s a Dell S300W ($999, dell.com) that does exactly that. I’ve always had that idea, and I can’t believe someone actually built it.
I ask friends to make a donation to charitywater.org. Almost a billion people don't have access to clean, safe drinking water. A $20 donation can give one person clean water for 20 years.
I spend much of my free time building race cars. Right now I'm looking forward to a new radiator, intercooler, dash gauges, wiring, and hoses for a car I'm trying to finish. I work in a very intellectual industry so out of the office I long to get my hands dirty. Anything with "parts" usually gets my attention.
A silver pen from Smythson. I have given two to friends. That's a true test of friendship to give a gift you really want yourself. I'm thinking if I had a beautiful pen it would slow down my writing and make what I have to say meaningful and careful.
I love to travel around the world surfing. A big new part of surfing is stand-up paddleboarding. One of the things I’d love to get is a Gerry Lopez stand-up paddleboard ($1,495, rivierapaddlesurf.com). It makes it easier to catch waves. That’s the kind of thing I love to do.
It would be fabulous to get a new Hermes scarf, the Quadrige II is so punchy ($375, hermes.com). Forget the parking lot at the mall, I’ll be shopping from the eBay Fashion app for iPhone.
I want a Canon EOS 5D Digital Camera. It’s compact and lightweight—perfect for travel—plus it’s easy to use. The great thing about this camera is that I can use it one week to capture progress in remote African villages and the next to capture memories with my four kids on Christmas morning! A Korin takoyaki pan ($24.90, korin.com) I just got back from Japan where we had amazing takoyaki [octopus fritters]. It made me want to replicate it at home. Of course I will make traditional takoyaki in the pan, but I also think there may be many other uses that we will discover for use at Alinea.
I recently rediscovered my love of cycling while I was out in Los Angeles and now have my eye on Public’s M8 bike ($890, publicbikes.com). With eight speeds, it will be perfect for the bumpy streets of Manhattan, as well as a quiet ride in the country.
A $25 gift card to Best Buy. I'd like to get a DVD or maybe a couple of CDs, but I'd like to pick them out myself. Also, I want to get my ears pierced because I want a change in my look for 2011. For that one, the person giving the gift wouldn't necessarily have to physically pierce my ears themselves.
