Jordan Shakeel, 9; Jocelyn Mines, 10

Hometown: Birmingham, Alabama
School: Robert E. Lee Elementary
Device: One Laptop Per Child XO laptop

Jordan: "I got the XO last year. My favorite game is Scratch. Scratch is like a cat, and you can walk it and you can tell your voice to make his voice and you can play games and make backgrounds. You can make it any color and you can draw anything you want in it.
I like to create my own stuff, like multiplication games and vocabulary words. When you do vocabulary, you see the word and you've got to find the definition. I learned 'hallelujah' this week. It means 'a word of praise.' But I don't know how to spell it."
Jocelyn: "I got the XO last year. I like this better than a regular computer because it has so much to do and different kinds of games to play. We can do math games, and it teaches us times tables, subtraction, and adding. I think I'm better at math because of the XO. Sometimes you can make your own game, and you play games the other students have already made. I made up a game called Math Matching. I did times tables. We matched the problem to the sum. It really taught me my times tables better."
