Tadashi Yanai

Tadashi Yanai, the founder of Uniqlo, has grown the Japanese retailer into the world's fourth-largest clothing chain. Fifteen years ago, it was, according to one Uniqlo exec, "like the Old Navy of Japan, but not as nice." Today, it sells affordable, well-made socks, underwear, T-shirts, jeans, blazers, and dresses using perhaps the most technologically advanced textiles of any mass-market retailer in the world. Uniqlo has appeared on innumerable fashion hot lists and has scored much-praised collaborations with designers including Jil Sander and Charlotte Ronson.
