O.D. Kobo has gotten closer than most Westerners ever could to China’s heavily regulated, license-bound Internet industry. The 38-year-old was born to American parents and raised in Hong Kong, where he spent over a decade as an operator, IT developer, incubator, and investor in Chinese web portals. In November he used what he’d learned to launch a cross-platform social network in the United States, complete with a brazen monetization scheme.
