Matías Duarte leads the Android Design team at Google. He is responsible for all aspects of the software and visual experience across the Android platform, core applications services, and the design of Nexus tablets and phones. Recently, his team designed the critically acclaimed Nexus 5 phone, Nexus 7 tablet, Android 4.4 KitKat, and the Google Now Launcher, which brings the predictive power and natural language voice control of Google Now to the home screen. Duarte has also led the design of the four previous versions of Android.
Prior to Google, Duarte spearheaded the design of several consumer devices and computing platforms, including the WebOS operating system at Palm, the Ocean series of two-way sliders at Helio, and the T-Mobile Sidekick at Danger Inc.
Duarte received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Maryland in College Park. His ongoing mission is to make computers delightful.
