James Cameron

Filmmaker

Hollywood’s highest-grossing director, maker of such groundbreaking films as Titanic and Avatar, has become known for pushing technological innovation in filmmaking. During the filming of Terminator 2, he began to consciously introduce elements into the script that would spur technological development. For Titanic, he created new equipment to plumb the interior of the ship--mirroring a personal interest in deep-sea exploration that would later lead to his record-breaking 35,787-foot solo dive in a submarine to the Mariana Trench near Guam, the deepest known place on Earth.
