David Kelley

Founder, Ideo

David Kelley, the founder of IDEO--which created such iconic objects as Apple's first mouse and the thumbs up/thumbs down button on the Tivo remote--pioneered the idea of "design thinking." Rather than design objects, Kelley, who also heads Stanford's d.school, designs solutions. IDEO, with more than 500 employees in eight offices on three continents, has drawn on Kelley's methodology to do everything from stimulate customer savings at Bank of America to revamp nursing shifts at Kaiser Permanente.
