Cory Booker is the first African American U.S. Senator from New Jersey, elected in October 2013 after serving as the mayor of Newark for eight years. As mayor, he gained national recognition for his commitment to hands-on constituent service and social media engagement, as well as his efforts in the areas of crime reduction and economic development.
