Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States. Obama was sworn in 2009 and his second term will end in January 2017. He is the first African American to serve as President of the United States. Before he became president, Obama served as as a U.S. senator for the state of Illinois, where he was known for promoting compromise, passing lobbying reform, and making federal spending available on the Internet. Before he was a U.S. senator, he was a professor at the University of Chicago and an Illinois state senator. During his time as president, he signed into law the Affordable Care Act, often referred to as Obamacare, which has helped millions of people receive health care. He has also recruited top talent from Silicon Valley to help better integrate technology into government.
