The Guide to Business with Earthlings: Observation 13

By Offyd Grinipuffs

"Economies of scale” is one of the reasons Earthling companies give for expanding. By becoming bigger, their reasoning goes, they will be able to negotiate lower prices from suppliers, and pass the savings on to their customers. However, large corporations working globally must by their very nature have centralised, standardised and automated systems if they are to function as a whole. Unfortunately such systems inevitably bring with them disadvantages, for example that:

1.    Delays are almost inevitable.

2.    Short-cuts are virtually impossible.

3.    Those responsible for failures in the system or the supply process are insulated from the consequences of their shortcomings.

In the current business climate, capital punishment in the form of hanging, beheading, electrocution etc. for inefficiency, nonchalance or rudeness is not allowed. If it were (and given the violence which forms such a large part of Human Nature, we are surprised that it is not) we believe there would be a significant improvement in service levels.

May the force be with you.
