Halo 3's Octopus Marketing Strategy

Only the King can offer you the one up on the game. From September 24 through October 22, Burger King Corp. will feature Halo 3-themed packaging, such as 42-ounce cup and King FRYPOD™. Consumers also access exclusive Halo 3 content, such as game tips by logging on to Burger King's Halo 3 site [1].


Mountain Dew unveiled the first beverage co-branded with Halo 3 last month, Mountain Dew Game Fuel. Game Fuel will come in 20-ounce bottles, 2-liter bottles and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans and will be available nationwide for a limited time starting August 13, 2007.


What would an action figure's brand campaign be without, well, an action figure? McFarlane Toys has created a set of exquisitely crafted figurines, action figures, and vehicles that complement the Halo 3 video game.


From the video game console to the plane, Halo can now go on the road -- and we're not talking a handheld game either. The Halo novel series, consisting of volumes one through four, are currently available at retailers. The most recent, "Ghosts of Onyx," appeared on The New York Times Best Sellers list, and "Contact Harvest," the next novel in the series, will be available this fall.


From Marvel Comics and Bungie Studios, "The Halo Graphic Novel" is a collection of four stories by different creators, all set in the "Halo" universe of the 26th century. It's a 128-page full-color jacketed hard-cover graphic novel.


Halo 3, the game, comes in three different types packaging which includes the Standard Edition, Limited Edition and Legendary Edition. The Legendary Edition includes the game, three DVD documentaries, and Master Chief Helmet Replica.

Encased in collectible packaging, the Zune-"Halo 3" Edition is a 30GB customized black device that comes preloaded with a collection of "Halo: Combat Evolved," "Halo 2" and "Halo 3" content, including videos, soundtracks, trailers and artwork.
