Bradbury Building, Los Angeles, CA
Designed by George H. Wyman
"When asked to name his favorite building in Los Angeles, Julius, as a surprise to many, would usually name the Bradbury Building in downtown Los Angeles. Although the exterior is quite mundane, the inside of the building is a completely different story. A vast interior of six levels, each with its own balcony, two elevator shafts, and an entire roof of glass, the overall space was the perfect interplay between the various elements culminating in a virtual symphony for the eyes. When Julius was photographing the Bradbury Building for his second time in 1991, he came up with the term 'visual acoustics' as a description of this particular interior. He mentioned this story while we were shooting the film, and we wanted to use it as the title because we thought it was such a lyrical description of his photography. Whenever we consulted with Julius about the title, he gave us this typically adamant response: 'Name it Visual Acoustics, damn it! They'll love it!'"
