With Google or PayPal, merchants would be paying between 2% to 3% of credit card each transaction in fees, plus a $.20 and $.30 flat fee. Amazon has these fees, too; but with their Flexible Payment System, developers can allow small charges from the same customer to accrete into big batches before they're processed. That means merchants don't have to pay a fee on every single transaction.
