I don't agree that it's about two competitors trying to catch up to web 2.0. Depending on how you define web 2.0, both Yahoo and Microsoft have been in that space for a long time, at least in the social web space. Yahoo groups anyone? Microsoft also in MSN. Both companies also own or are investors other 'Web 2.0' companies. Flickr for Yahoo and Microsofts recent investment in Facebook are two of the more prominent examples.

Leslie, btw, if the board members are asking what they should be doing, it reflects poorly on the board that they are sitting on.
Boards should take the time and effort to educate new board members on the roles and responsibilities of boards in general and the board that they are specifically sitting on. Ideally, an outside consultant, specializing in board development, would be involved in part of this.

David Locke nailed it with governance.

Boards have multiple roles that board members need to balance in regards to their organization.

First and foremost, boards are answerable to the organizations stakeholders, in for profit companies, these are the shareholders or investors. Usually, the priority for these people are maximizing their return on investment.

The board is involved in governance, providing the direction for the organization and reviewing the big picture issues of the organization. The board also has a fiduciary responsibility with all that entails.

And could you change the input filter to preserve double space between paragraphs for readability, or was the removal of line breaks the desired behavior?

Just asking and checking.

It's great that you are using Drupal as your CMS, but you may want to add some hardware since this site is running pretty slow. It isn't a critcism, just an observation coming from a developer that thinks Drupal is an excellent CMS and community.

Unfortunately, I encountered a workflow issue. I entered my comment, while not registered, and after submit, I was brought to the register page.

So far so good.

Fast Talk Response -

Apple has a long history of both, especially after Wozniak left. Steve Jobs likes to be the prophet figure that leads the unwashed masses to the technological future he invisions, reality be damned.

The first instance of this was the old Lisa computer. Even the compromise product, the original Mac, showed this by providing the buyer with a closed, unexpandable box because you shouldn't need anything more than what Steve Jobs determined you should need.
