My doctor used to head up the ER department in our local hospital. Feeling burnt out, he took a friend's advice and opened an innovative walk in medical clinic. Expanding quickly to 3 locations around the city, this physician utilizes a system which prints out the patient's prescription. He provides great service, availability, Spanish speaking staff, and most of all results without waiting in the hospital's ER.

Alex,

I agree. Truly great innovation is often derived from meaning. Example: the smallpox vaccine--an innovative though risky idea which sprang from the need for physical protection. Perhaps it's also a form of common sense.

This is not always the most lucrative path, nor the most notable, but sometimes those rewards follow--albeit at times posthumously.

Great article! Should this be addressed solely as a national issue in relation to the global problem, or can it also be addressed at a regional level--perhaps more effectively?
