On Monday we released the first public demo of
a product I've been working on for almost a year. It's great to be
able to show people that you're not just imagining the company you
started.

Why Start (Up) Now

Amid the gyrations of the stock market, and predictions of a severe
economic downturn, I have found myself in the interesting position of
launching a start up with my friends at Lullabot and Bond Art +
Science. Over the past six years, I've worked within the comfortable
fold of two well known brands in the media world: Inc. and Fast
Company, the last four years as president of a digital division with
six websites, 40 employees and more than $10 million in revenue. Now
I've left to be the CEO of a self-funded company formed by Lullabot and

Blockbusters will do better. Small independent films will probably suffer.

Start ups will offer far more opportunity over the long term. Wall Street has entered into a period of trauma that will last for many years or forever.

Fast Talk Response -

Yes, but more because of the economics of the situation than environmental concerns. The new milk jug is a perfect example -- retailers are saving a fortune in fuel costs by more efficiently cramming milk jugs into their shipping containers. Consumers are going to buy milk even if the jug makes it harder to pour and the retailer makes more money. When economics line up with environmental concerns, then consumer choice for waste loses out.

Fast Talk Response -

Not really. He's been phasing himself out for years. The more important issue is whether Steve Ballmer can move the company forward: what will happen if they can't land Yahoo? What will happen if Facebook strikes a deal with Google and comprehensive people search finally is brought to search engines? What will happen if Apple so dominates the mobile web market that PC sales plummet?
