Fast Talk Response -

Microsoft needs to find someone who is famous NOW...preferably someone their target audience relates too. And that is NOT Jerry Seinfeld.

This is going to be as big a disconnect as XEROX using images of Charlie Chaplin. Iconic, but it couldn't cover the stench of a bad business decision or in Microsoft's case, an annoying operating system.

Using Seinfeld is a risky gamble considering his show has been off the air for years, (although in reruns). Boomers love Seinfeld... but that ignores another 90 million Gen X and Y users familiar with Microsofts operating system and XBOX.

No. Branding is about perception...and you can't change perception. Sony PSP and Nintendo DS are gaming gear...the iPhone is a Mac Phone. If you want to get a lesson on how to enter a market and NOT dominate, look at Microsoft's XBOX 360.

Sometimes corporations enter an already dominated arena just so they can have a "me too" set of products in that area.

iPhone can enter the portable Game Gear market, but they will be far from becoming the leader.

Fast Talk Response -

Since iPhone has decimated the competition by launching early, all Nokia, BlackBerry and any other smart phone manufacturer can do is...follow the leader.

The numbers are in: Apple sold 6 million iPhones so far. Take the early adopters, plus the army of buyers who came on board when they dropped the price, you are still looking at over $1.8 billion.

The only way the other manufacturers can repair the damage, is if they invent a phone that can help me fly.
Comment on Node ant

GM proclaimed the SUV dead because their overall sales have been slumping for years. Quick, name 5 GM brands? Hard isn't it? Now name 5 Ford Brands? Easier right? It's all about the brand and GM has lost sight of that fact.

Now add to that a slumping economy and inflated gas prices...GM can't give their cars away.

Fast Talk Response -

Sorry to say, there IS a blueprint for corporate leadership, we just don't know what it is...but we definitely know what it is NOT.

There must be some sort of structure...otherwise so many people on this board wouldn't say "I do not feel there is a blueprint to being a successful leader....BUT here is a blueprint I use."

What it takes is to understand what works for you individually. Take that knowledge of self, and integrate it with the people you are leading. Help develop your team and you will see results.

Fast Talk Response -

Is anybody paying attention to the fact that when TV commercials NAME only one other competitor it automatically knocks the third brand into the number three category by sales? Remember RC Cola? Used to be a direct competitor to Coca Cola, until Coke named Pepsi as their ONLY competition. RC never recovered.

Apple is telling us that the PC isn't very good. Who are they talking about? Microsoft. Ironically, Microsoft doesn't manufacture computers. Dell does. Microsoft’s operating system has always attempted to imitate MAC. They are just pointing out that fact.

Fast Talk Response -

All is fair in love and war and branding is war. As for Mac vs. PC...these commercials are genius because Apple is not only pointing out MAC superiority, they are providing commentary on the biggest frustrations that all PC users have. Microsoft has chosen to ignore the user for years and just send quick fixes. This is the buzz that has been around for years about Microsoft products, and Alta Vista is just another nail in the coffin...whereas MAC applications are precise, and targeted towards professionals.

Fast Talk Response -

The sure sign that a country is on the outs is when its leadership is corrupt, caught in lascivious activities and disregards the populace. I suggest everyone read "Where Have All the Leaders Gone?" by Lee Iacocca

Many believe they have come to power because the are brilliant. What they forget, is it took others to vote them there.

Fast Talk Response -

Actually Jay, many of the points you laid out are so valid, I am wondering if you may not have a new future in developing leadership "systems." It is needed so badly in this day and age...

The Bible is a great place to start and it is obvious that you are a pillar of HIS strength to apologize on a public forum. I thank you and accept.

Know that you have a friend and my undivided attention from here on out.

Fast Talk Response -

Thank you Jay Tatum for keeping my ego in check. Your comments did give me a good chuckle, after all, is there a system that works for everyone? Probably not...but we can start with some sort of structure.

Understand this- sometimes I get carried away...but my heart is in the right place: I want people to succeed, especially in this age of transience and lack of moral and ethical guidance.
