Location, Location, Location: Location Data For Everyone

There continues to be a lot of buzz about location data and local search. Both Google and Yahoo have developed services giving any, website using the code, the power to know a visitors location, including mobile devices and even without using a GPS. Google is doing this with their Gears Geolocaiton API and Yahoo! with their Fire Eagle service.

Fast Talk Response -

Hmmm.. well since most cars are not really made to run most efficiently at 55mph, I definitely say no! My car a VW GTI cruises best at about 80. It is after all made for the German Autobahn.
If the government wants to regulate something. How about the car makers. Make them use the technology they already have to increase fuel efficiency in vehicles. Or how about alternative fuels. Now I'm just talking crazy I guess. ;)

Comment on Node ant

I think the "any ending" will cause more problems than any language. It wouldn't be very smart for a business to choose something with local characters that other languages don't use if they want to market to anyone outside the region that speaks that language/dialect. I see the free for all ending as more detrimental because it is sort of equivalent to saying there are no longer any area codes or country codes for telephone numbers. Plus, who is going to benefit from the bidding wars? It won't be ICANN, it will be the registrars and the domain squatters.

Fast Talk Response -

Realize that we are not alone in this world..
Global confidence or opinion of the USA has drastically declined in the last 10 years. Which some would say can be directly attributed to the actions of the government. I've always found it puzzling that leaders and particularly governments don't understand the connection between this and economic performance. If the general opinion of the USA by the people of another country is poor they will collectively be less likely to buy US made products, less likely to travel to the USA and less likely to want to deal with US companies.

I have to agree with you Tim. I am also a member of LinkedIn and I have a couple of recruiters that I added to my contacts because they worked for the same company I used to. I once asked one of the recruiters with 500+ contacts if she could help out another one of my contacts with finding a new job. Seemingly this would be exactly why she was on LinkedIn. I never received any response not even a courtesy, "I'm sorry I can't help him."

Hey this is a great idea! Will Fast Company allow us to make our own using their logo? I've done this for another networking site I belong to YSN.com(with their permission of course). You can see the buttons here: http://blackbirdesolutions.com/networking-buttons.html
