Lynne and Brendan raise valid points. This crisis is definitely different than 2001 on two fronts; 1)it is rooted in the financial sector and 2) it is global in scope. Having lived through 2001 and the telecommunications bust, I can tell you that this time is different. Last go round I worked for an IT services and consulting company and shifted my personal focus from telecomm to outsourcing in the energy sector and things worked out ok.

This economic downturn and recession has been many years in the making (poor policy, political in-fighting, divisiveness, and greed) and will take some time to reverse (we cannot drill or print our way out of this mess). Since the US has become a consumer of wealth and natural resources rather than a creator of wealth and renewer of resources, we find that economic bad times are much worse, more widespread, and will last longer. We also find ourselves beholden to individuals, organizations, and countries that do not have our best interests as their number 1 priority.

Higher prices due to the use product placement in content versus actual ads (just like in the movies or on TV). Fewer ads? Depends on the marketplace and overall ad revenue from product placements.

I agree with Warren...depending upon one candidate over the other is pointless. The real issues are we are spending more than we have and on the wrong things and Congress is too busy yammering at one another to work effectively and productively to solve problems in a bipartisan manner. Washington is broken and it will take evryone in both parties working together to fix it. Both campaigns have gotten sidetracked and are not speaking effectively to the issues that need to be addressed. Both have plans and both sets of plans have grievous flaws in them.

Hmmm...let's see...I had to take a direct loss on Fannie Mae a few years ago when the stock went in the tank. The CEO then got a golden parachute. And I received pennies on the dollar in the class action suit settlement that followed. And now I will like take another hit since I am certain that mutual funds I have investments in include one or the other or both of these money pits. So, H%$# Yes make them and the BOD members walk the plank. If I get paid based on performance, then I don't see why they should not get paid in that same way.

Bold statement, especially since Obama has not been elected nor been in a place where he can enact his policies. Last I checked, we have a government with 3 branches. And 2 of those branches (executive and legislative) must work closely together (under the watchful eye of the judicial branch) to define and implement economic policies. The President, nor his cabinet can dictate economic policies because Congress ultimately has the power of the purse and ultimately represnts the will of the people...that is when theyare not busy with partisan bickering, name calling, and campaigning.

Disagree due to the word 'only'. The infrastructure crisis is real and pervasive. It also cannot be solved in ways that have been used in the past. Given the volume of projects and needs that have gone unattended to over the past 30-40 years, combinations of public and private efforts will be needed. Moreover, these efforts must be carefully structured to prevent or at least mitigate the risks cited by the author above.

To agree or disagree with this statement requires a crystal ball that, frankly no one has in their possession. Besides, does anyone really think that airline food is that good anyway? Sure, I like flying business class outside the country and having some food/drink on the way. But if I did not have that food/drink, would I not take a trip that I needed/wanted to take? Oh sure, I am going to walk or swim from the US to any location oveseas. Gimme a break...

Perhaps candidate Obama should propose a $10M reward to the first person who delivers an iPhone app that solves global warming. I can't wait for to see the Web 2.0 and Internet solutions for solving world hunger, defeating terrorism, capturing Bin Laden, dealing with global warming and the energy crisis, cleaning up the air in China, and balancing the US federal budget.
