This Week in Marketing Ethics

Ok, first off, I can hear you laughing at the title
of this post. Not very nice! Don Draper aside, we marketing types do at times
look into our souls and make an effort at doing the right thing. So this post
is about what I’ve been hearing this week, and the upshot for ethics in
marketing.

Todd,

Word doesn't care which way I spell "miniscule." Thanks for the clarification on that Lynne.

Anyway, there's plenty of actual content in this post to argue with. Is Izea sponsored tweet program really that bad? Maybe so, maybe not - but that would be a conversation worth having. Enjoy your weekend!

Reinventing Yourself? Listen Up!

I’m ready for a change. For the past several years, I’ve been heading in too many directions at once. It was a fun ride for awhile, but it’s time to hone in on a few core objectives, a path through the wilderness. I know many others are facing similar challenges. Whether by economic necessity or design, this kind of transition requires nothing short of a reinvention. Having started down this road, here are four ways I’ve been learning to listen along the way:

Greg,

Yes, hooray for "third places!" Pubs, cafes, etc are places where community is forged. I had a conference in Venice Beach a few years back - it has that stuff in spades, and not just along the beach. Sounds like OC needs to get a little bit Venice-funky! (I won't hold my breath :D )

Learn. Look. Ask. Try. These are the cards we're dealt in the people-centric design approach used by the global design innovation provocateurs at IDEO. Back in 2003, IDEO began dealing these four "suits" in a pack of 51 Method Cards.
