Fast Talk Response -

Yahoo investors still steaming over the failed opportunity to cash out believe CEO Jerry Yang misrepresented their interests, but are these same interests inline with Yahoo's? Mr. Icahn is clearly in it for the money (he made a cool $300 million when he unsuccessfully tried to breakup TimeWarner in 2006). Forcing a deal between Microsoft and Yahoo right now will only add to his (and other Y! investors') pocketbook. The fate of the two tech giants should be decided by their business savvy (or lack thereof) -- not be made into a business.

Like Rachel said, the idea of having a single portal to access multiple online networks sounds great for users -- in theory. In reality, trying to standardize these disparate properties will be buggy at best. What is the incentive for sites like MySpace and Facebook to work together with Google, when they're all trying to monetize through ads or sponsored widgets? Would they work out some revenue share model? Sorry. I can't see it happening.

Fast Talk Response -

With GTA, I don't think the issue is so much violence (you're living life as a criminal after all) as interactive pixulated digital sex that is getting crtics everywhere hot and bothered.

For those who believe GTA's mature content is unconscionable, I like to ask why raunchy/violent TV shows and movies are acceptable, where kids can easily access without parental supervision, but not video games?

I think Google could use some more competition, at least in the North American market. While it unquestionably dominates the search and ad markets, neither services are perfect. MicroHoo would have been great just to remind Google to not get too complacent at Googleplex.

This brings to mind a perceptive thought from Lord John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, first Baron Acton (1834–1902):
"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."

I wouldn't go so far as to say the Starbucks brand is in ruins but it definitely has lost its luster. Starbucks used to be about exceptional customer service but that has become a privilege in locations on the East Coast. Ever tried ordering anything with soy (I'm lactose intolerant)? That's almost always followed by some eye-rolling or dramatic sigh.
