I will only be impressed when I see this commercial:
(Wide shot of Jerry Seinfeld onstage at comedy club)
Jerry: Ya know what I can't stand? No, not airline food, because they don't serve food on airlines now. Not that they ever did.
(Audience laughter)
No, I can't stand people who think Vista is a awful program.
(Audience boos)

Fast Talk Response -

A variation on the above question: If an operating system out in the woods needs to spend $300 million and hire a comedian 10 years past his prime to shill for it...does it make a noise? Discuss.

Fast Talk Response -

I think the question is flawed because it assumes that extensive PR guarantees success. PR is only one factor, and in most cases, a pitifully small one, in the success of any product, technology or not. Read about Hush Puppies shoes in "The Tipping Point," for instance. Can anyone name an example where it was mostly PR that made the success of any product?

Fast Talk Response -

Hmmm, let me take out my graph paper and sharpen my pencil. I am now drawing a reality curve, which measures the irrelevancy level of the federal minimum wage in most areas of the country. Next I plot out a curve measuring the success level of eight years of Reaganomics Redux to see where they intersect. Oops, they don't. I would add a ceiling measuring CEO pay of these poor companies forced to pay the workers flipping the burgers and foaming the lattes poverty wages however my paper is only 11 inches tall.

Absolutely, for a $500 surcharge per ticket. Then the airlines can use the money to purchase Bose noise canceling headphones for each passenger, calibrated for the frequency of cell phone talkers, which conveniently has been scientifically measured at just about the same as a jet engine.

Fast Talk Response -

Is it any more acceptable than a baseball player getting $20 mil a season? At least the CEO is running a company that employs a lot of people, provides a product or service that people want, and is darn good at doing it, one would hope. The baseball player, well, plays baseball. The other consideration is that neither the baseball player or the CEO pays themselves these huge salaries. They are given this money because someone with control of the purse strings--whether a board of directors or George Steinbrenner--thinks they are worth it.
