Josh Bernoff, Forrester Research analyst and co-author of social media book Groundswell, just posted results on Q2 data that shows consumers in North America generally don't trust corporate blogs. Only 16% do. Here's their chart that captures the results in this graph.

Creators are the missing link in Web 2.0!

I've become a huge fan of illustrator Hugh McLeod of http://www.gapingvoid.com lately. I know, I know, so has everyone else. What I want to say here is that web 2.0/social media isn't just about the buzzing crowd, coffee-swilling developers, VC savvy dudes and clever social media strategists. A missing link is apparent and I'm not sure why it took so long for me to realize it. It's also about the creative ideas and content that are needed to make things that actually stand out and worth being there for. This doesn't say that we should usher old-school advertising back into the door.

What is social branding?

"We are not seats or eyeballs or end-users or consumers. We are human beings - and our reach extends your grasp. Deal with it." - Excerpt from the Clue Train Manifesto

Fast Talk Response -

I doubt it. There were too many SBs anyway so setting up a competitor shop wouldn't be that profitable. The economic slump means less $3 a cup coffee drinkers but this is temporary and then SB will be back.

Comment on Node ant

Let me geek out for a second. With the arrival of OpenSocial (clever Google!), the advantage Facebook had by opening it's API to widget developers, seems to be slipping. Whether this is the cause of the dropping value of FB is unclear to me, but OpenSocial suddenly makes networks that allow easy tapping into people's data, social graph and feeds a lot more attractive. Look at aggregators Plaxo or FriendFeed as current examples. FB is a walled city (admittedly a great one). But openness is the future (thanks again to Google) and FB needs to figure out how they fit.

Fast Talk Response -

The best place is in starting new businesses, specifically businesses that take advantage of web 2.0 and the momentum of the word-of-mouth. It's a good time to create useful services that satisfy needs where customers feel they are really paying for what they get.
