I would agree that Apple is "hip and trendy" but what touch points do they possess that others do not?

Grab their attention advertising? New innovations? Best in class service? Best in class pricing? Retail/repair store on every corner?

All of these are debatable and some are not even close to the mark.

Fast Talk Response -

Nope, obesity wins. I do think it's a great marketing strategy by Nintendo though. If parents are faced with a choice between 2 video games such as Xbox360 or the Wii they may be swayed to the Wii because it seems to be "healthy"! Nice job Nintendo...game on!

So many sites are at Web 2.0 or News 2.0 that it's tough to find that niche. Associated Content, Backfence, Digg, Findory, Gather.com, Google News, Inform.com, Newsvine and I'm sure there are more...

How about putting your own spin on "Google Alerts"? Have registered visitors link a calendar to your website. Search for news not just by thier "keyword interests" but intelligently search their Outlook calendars.
For example: Monday June 2nd :travel to LA for biz meeting.

Comment on Node ant

Africa is in a very difficult spot. The need for money, jobs and some sense of security far out ways the fear of losing their natural resources. Hopefully, articles like this can shine a spotlight on the region and call more attention to what is happening there before it is too late. Maybe the will of the UN, the African Union or the Southern African Development Community, all of which Mozambique is a part of, could stem the tide of what appears to be a lopsided trading agreement.

The one line that really hits home with me is the failure statistics. If your not failing and your rolling out 100% successes then your not taking risks! I have worked for companies that had huge success rates for new products, but we were not truly innovative, just safe. I will certainly check out the book too.

I like the article but I disagree with number 5. “I made an assumption about what you said to me. I just want to check and see if that’s what you really mean.”....if someone said that to me I would turn right back on them and ask "what was your assumption?" or "were YOU not listening to me?". Get defensive and let the person your speaking with know where they stand. If it hurts you then say so, if it's funny then laugh....but don't ask them to clarify it before you react.

Fast Talk Response -

TiVo is the most successful living room software ever written. Build on the software and forget about the hardware (it's a hard drive in a box). Pour the R&D dollars into the software and contiune to sign up large cable companies to use it.
