Scientists: Information overload may be damaging our ability to feel

Well it's finally being addressed by the scientific community!

Information Overload isn't just a consideration, it may now be based on cold hard facts.

In his seminal book of the 60's (Future Shock) Alvin Toffler suggested that 'increasing the number of choices a consumer has may result in their ability to make a decision.' It will also reduce reaction times.

Fast Talk Response -

I agree Rachel King! They're as bad as each other and both excellent examples of information overload which, in time, will be superceeded by a newer model anyway. Why people need and rely on these time efficient, messy sites is beyond me.

Fast Talk Response -

Isn’t this just amazing? Like, what does Carl Icahn know about the Internet? Sorry, make that communications?

Wouldn't it be interesting to know just what he and his nominees intend to do with Yahoo should they succeed in taking control?

What are his proposals, recommendations, considerations and models for the social behemoth? The tens of millions of subscribers/ users should be asking these and many more questions. Didn't they in fact contribute to making Yahoo what it is today? And if so, then shouldn't they have some say in its future?

Comment on Node ant

In his book, G-Forces - The 35 Global Forces Restructuring Our Future (Morrow Publishing 1989), Frank Feather offers a Chapter on Sharing Information and Technology with a subject headed: Copyright Law Becoming Obsolete. In it he proposes: 'Individual intellectual property rights will become absurd once collective knowledge is shared in a single electronic global brain, accessible to all.' He continues; 'To restrict access to information, then, is to restrict economic development for everyone.

Ah...get ready...here we go! I would suggest that everyone read Kermit Pattison's blog titled 'Steal this Idea' as he's made some interesting points about this very sort of thing.

Fast Talk Response -

A successful company in today's era of social responsibility could only be one which demonstrates most of the following internal and external values. Some of those attributes a company would need to win my vote are:

A true commitment to valuing its employees

A decent Employee Share Option Plan where reward equals effort

A management structure that is open to fresh ideas

A balanced % of males and females in senior management roles as well as on the board
