Happy employees get their own book

I recently came across another video with Zappos CEO, Tony Hsieh, being interviewed informally by web entrepreneur Loic Le Meur. The interview, which is 20 minutes long and was recorded during the TED conference, can be found on YouTube.

Some thoughts on iPhone apps

How are they changing the Web? The obvious is iPhone apps are increasingly allowing people to access online content during times when they didn't have access to it before, therefore the increasing availability of mobile web access in general is continuing to speed up information sharing. What's interesting is some of the more impressive apps are not just displaying their content in a mobile-friendly manner, but also coming up with unique ways to engage their users using interactive features and digital media.

Fast Talk Response -

I agree 100% with Timothy above. This is very similar to when the newsfeed was introduced and now it's one of the best features. Because facebook is "social", one person's bad opinion spreads quickly and people just agree and join these groups to rebel because everyone else is doing it!

Fast Talk Response -

It's too soon to tell if this campaign is effective. The general response online has been very negative, but I am not making up my mind yet. At least until I see how the rest of the campaign goes. I am sure CP+B knows what they are doing and somewhat expected this type of response because this first ad is very out there.

It would be nice to be able to text message or send/receive emails on the plane so my answer is yes, but no voice, only data.

Fast Talk Response -

I think they definitely have a better business model than the other major social networks since they offer premium services that people and companies are willing to pay for and find valuable. They also don't really have any competition. This video is kind of like an infomercial, but you don't usually see investors releasing a video after investing in a company: http://tinyurl.com/3nfmve.

Comment on Node ant

I liked this part of the article -- “Whatever is done, though, will clearly involve an attempt at a major personality overhaul. "It's kind of like 3M," says Bogusky, who calls Microsoft "smart as fuck." 3M is "a very cool company, but I don't think if you see a roll of Scotch tape, anyone's going, 'I've gotta party with these people.' " Bogusky explains that with previous clients, instead of hiding qualities that may seem negative -- such as Mini's tiny proportions or Burger King's fat content -- Crispin exploits them.

Editing Comments

Just wondering if there will eventually be an option to be able to edit your comments or at least have a window of time after you submit to make any quick changes. Thanks.

Fast Talk Response -

Apple’s latest Leopard operating system was released at a very good time when Vista was constantly getting delayed and getting lots of bad press in general. Apple was very smart in using this to their advantage, and the ads seem to be effective in getting people to switch. I like this Audi ad that directly targets the Lexus and their self parking assist which got a lot of attention when it was released: http://tinyurl.com/6dmg2d. So I think its fine to take a direct hit at your competition, just do it in a clever way that doesn’t come off as being too desperate.

Fast Talk Response -

That would probably really hurt some of the other sites that already enable people to do this like Ustream.tv, Justin.tv, and now Seesmic.com although Seesmic is described more as a "video Twitter".

I definitely don't see myself broadcasting, but it can be addicting to watch other streams - of course it all depends on how long the person streaming can keep you interested. It's basically online reality TV, which everyone loves to hate but they find themselves always watching. I found myself on Justin.tv and Seesmic a good amount after I heard about them, but not so much anymore.
