Even the Wizard knew there was little he could do for Dorothy beyond creating an opportunity for reflection and change.
- If your boss is the Scarecrow, don't give him a diploma: try to be his brain.
- If your boss isn't smart enough to impress you, it's probably because the work isn't about dueling IQs - it's about successfully accomplishing tasks.
- When the Scarecrow gets meddlesome, it's time to hit the road.
- If your boss is a Cowardly Lion, don't get him a medal: pick your battles wisely and fight bravely.
- If your boss won't decide, someone else will.
- Sometimes when your boss won't take a stand, there's a good reason - figure it out.
- Sometimes when your boss won't take a stand, there's no good reason - then you have to decide if there's a good reason for you to take a stand.
- If your boss is a Tin Man, learn to carry an oil can. Simply by anticipating your boss's needs, you can eliminate a lot of the squeaks in your interactions.
- Sometimes what seems heartless to you is tough business to the boss. Confusing the two is common - and usually damaging to your ability to act.
- Only your boss can build a better boss; only you can build a better you. Even the Wizard knew there was little he could do for Dorothy beyond creating an opportunity for reflection and change.
